“Smart” Quotes

Why Smart Quotes?

As a writer or developer, you owe it to your readers to get the following right:

• Spelling
• Grammar
• Punctuation

This site is a small contribution to getting the Punctation right.

Your keyboard is, for historical reasons, limited to so-called "straight" quotes. It is your duty, as an intelligent contributor to Knowledge, to overcome this limitation and use proper Typographic quotes in your writing.

The term, “smart quotes” was, apparently, invented by David Dunham, and is used to describe not the quotes themselves, but the automatic correction of "straight" quotes to typographic quotes. You can learn more at Smart Quotes.
